Draymond Green Seeks to Clarify Comments on Charles Barkley
Draymond Green is looking to set the record straight.
The seasoned player for the Warriors faced criticism earlier this week after he made remarks about Charles Barkley’s time with the Houston Rockets.
While many saw Green’s comments as a humorous take on Barkley’s later career, Green stresses that wasn’t his intention.
“What Chuck is poking fun at in his own career really centers around his final two years in Houston,” Green said on his podcast.
He continued, “People are trying to twist this into ‘Draymond thinks he’s better than Chuck,’ which I found interesting. It highlights how much some folks want me to mess up.”
Following Barkley’s declaration on ESPN that “sports are for young people” and “the Warriors are over,” Green, who is 36, took a jab at the Hall of Famer.
“I think my goal is to avoid looking like myself in a Houston Rockets uniform,” he remarked.
During the show, co-analyst Kenny Smith urged Green to clarify his statements, but Green replied that his comments were later described as “laughable” in a follow-up call, suggesting Smith hadn’t grasped the full context live.
“No disrespect was meant, and if people perceive it as public discord, I’m ready to apologize. Seriously, that was not my intent,” Green stated.
Barkley previously mentioned on “The Dan Patrick Show” that his final two years with the Rockets were “the worst of his playing days.” Despite this, he averaged 16.5 points and 12.2 rebounds during his four seasons there, metrics that still surpass Green’s career averages.
“I never punch down. Draymond is a good player,” Barkley noted on “Bickley & Marotta.” However, he emphasized, “We’re not on the same level.”
