Sergey Brin's girlfriend denies influencing the Google co-founder politically

Jaelyn “GG” Gilbert-Soto, known as Sergey Brin’s “MAGA girlfriend,” has responded to accusations that she influenced the Google co-founder’s shift towards more conservative political views. She insisted that any change in his political stance is due to the actions of the Democratic Party.

“Democrats gave him the red pill. I didn’t have to do anything,” she said in a conversation with Bari Weiss. Last week marked the launch of the online platform “The Free Press.”

The 32-year-old wellness expert emphasized, “He has his own mind. If I could control him, I’d be married right now and have a baby.”

Gilbert-Soto, who has been referred to by President Trump as Brin’s “absolutely amazing MAGA girlfriend,” made these comments following a recent New York Times article that implied she had a significant role in Brin’s political shift. The tech billionaire, who used to support liberal causes and politicians like Barack Obama, is now increasingly linked with Trump.

She believes Brin’s transformation began even before they began dating three years ago. “If he was a raging liberal, he wouldn’t be with me and I wouldn’t be with him,” she shared.

As of now, Brin is valued at approximately $313 billion, making him the third richest person in the world according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

The proposed wealth tax in California, aimed at individuals worth over $1.1 billion, has also drawn criticism from him and Gilbert-Soto. They recently relocated to Nevada and are actively opposing this proposed 5% millionaire tax in California.

Reportedly, Brin has invested about $57 million to fight against this legislation and has contributed nearly $40,000 to Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Hilton.

Gilbert-Soto embraces the label of “MAGA girlfriend,” remarking, “People try to use this word as an insult, but all my opinions are pretty moderate. If I wanted to be popular, I’d be a liberal.”

She has stated that while she once voted for Hillary Clinton during her time at Mount Saint Mary’s University, she grew disenchanted with the Democratic Party, especially during the pandemic. She articulated a feeling of confusion regarding the measures taken during that time, noting that media coverage around Trump’s reactions to the 2017 white supremacist rally in Charlottesville also strained her connection to liberal viewpoints.

“I thought he was a terrible person, but now I love him,” she remarked, highlighting her changed perspective towards Trump, whom she now describes as “charismatic,” “very smart,” and “very funny.”

Gilbert-Soto noted that Brin’s own experiences, particularly regarding anti-Israel sentiment after the October 7 Hamas attack, also influenced his political changes. “October 7th was a big day for him, too,” she indicated.

Brin, who emigrated from the Soviet Union as a child, has previously voiced concerns about California’s billionaire tax, likening it to socialism. “I fled socialism with my family in 1979, so I know the devastating and repressive society that socialism created in the Soviet Union,” he stated in a previous interview.

Neither of them is afraid of making political decisions together, including their financial support of Hilton’s gubernatorial campaign. However, Gilbert-Soto noted that Brin often chooses on his own which causes to back. “At the end of the day, it’s his decision,” she said. “He’s not going to stand for something he doesn’t believe in.”

Gilbert-Soto and Brin reportedly met at a post-Burning Man event in 2023 while he was navigating his second divorce. She described him as somewhat awkward and very different from the typical tech mogul persona.

“He didn’t go on our first date because he was trying so hard to be somebody,” she recalled. “You could tell he was a lover trying to be unfaithful.”

The couple currently divides their time between Lake Tahoe, Nevada, New York, and Washington, D.C., where Brin has become more involved in discussions surrounding artificial intelligence policy.

Attempts to reach out to Brin and Gilbert-Soto for additional comments were made.
