Savannah Guthrie to Host NBC’s “Wordle” Game Show
On Monday, NBC announced that Savannah Guthrie, co-host of the “Today” show, will be the host of their new primetime “Wordle” game show. This news coincides with a poignant milestone, marking the 100th day since her mother disappeared.
During an appearance on “Today,” Jimmy Fallon, the show’s producer, joined Guthrie to discuss the upcoming series. He mentioned, “For the past two and a half years, we’ve been collaborating with The New York Times to bring ‘Wordle’ to the screen. Now, we’re thrilled to finally have Savannah on board!”
Guthrie expressed gratitude, noting that they had kept the news under wraps for a significant time. However, she also shared the difficult context surrounding her family’s recent hardships.
A Request for Support Amidst Tragedy
“When everything happened with my family, they put everything on hold and said, ‘We’re waiting,'” Guthrie revealed, reflecting on the support from her network amidst her mother’s disappearance. “Hollywood can be tough, but I never anticipated such kindness from them. I’m incredibly thankful.”
In turn, Fallon responded warmly, “We can’t do this without you. Your presence is invaluable, and it’s going to be fantastic.”
Filming for the show is set for this summer, although the exact date for its premiere is yet to be announced.
The “Wordle” game became well-known in 2021 before The New York Times acquired it, tapping into its vast popularity.
Guthrie’s mother, Nancy, has been missing since February 1. Authorities believe she was taken from her Tucson home around that time. Footage captured a masked individual outside her residence, raising many questions about her fate.
Returning to the “Today” show in early April after a brief break, Guthrie’s absence had drawn significant attention regarding her mother’s case.
There have been rumors surrounding unverified ransom notes sent to various news outlets, igniting speculation that her disappearance could be financially motivated. As of now, no suspect has been named.
Amid the ongoing investigation, both family members and authorities have made repeated appeals for help, offering over $1.2 million in rewards connected to the case. The Guthrie family has pledged a substantial sum in hopes of uncovering information about Nancy’s whereabouts, urging anyone with leads to contact the FBI.
