Chicago Police Cruiser Collides During Teen Hijacking
On Wednesday in Chicago, a chaotic scene unfolded when a police cruiser was rammed during what appeared to be a hijacking by a group of teenagers. Videos of the event circulated widely, with spectators cheering and capturing the moment on their phones.
The incident occurred around 12:43 a.m. when the cruiser was struck by another vehicle as a teenage boy was allegedly attempting to commandeer it. Witnesses noted a group jumping onto the hood of the police car, pushing it backward amidst the surrounding crowd.
In connection with the incident, 19-year-old Maximus Widarski faces several charges, including nine counts of vehicle theft, alongside misdemeanors for reckless driving and attempting to evade law enforcement.
Councilman Peter Chico indicated that there was another street takeover in the Hegewisch area just days later, escalating concerns about public safety.
During the hijacking, masked individuals were seen striking the police vehicle and preventing it from moving. It’s still unclear if there were additional arrests besides Widarski’s. Councilman Raymond Lopez expressed concern over the small number of arrests, highlighting that, in his view, everyone involved was breaking the law and putting lives at risk.
Lopez remarked, “It’s troubling that only one person was arrested. It’s hard to believe that in such a large group, only one person was caught.” He pointed out the reckless motivations driving the actions, like seeking social media fame, which should not place lives in jeopardy.
Additionally, Illinois State Comptroller Susan Mendoza criticized Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson’s leadership, urging him to allow the police to perform their duties effectively. Mendoza emphasized that the bold attack on law enforcement deserved strict repercussions, including arrests and fines.
FOX News Digital attempted to reach the Chicago Police Department and the Mayor’s office for further comments.
