Community Gift for Veteran in Colorado Springs
A U.S. Army veteran from Colorado Springs, Colorado, recently received a heartfelt gift from his local community, recognizing his commitment to supporting fellow veterans and their families.
Corwin Toyota, alongside News 5, has named Cody Halfpop as the recipient of a new Tacoma pickup truck, which will likely serve him well for years ahead, as reported by KOAA. His previous vehicle had racked up 300,000 miles, so this upgrade is something he truly values.
According to his profile, Halfpop works as a program manager for the Special Forces Foundation. He joined the organization last year after reaching out for assistance himself several times to help fellow Green Berets in crisis. His own 20-year tenure in Special Forces spurred him to assist others navigating the tricky transition to civilian life.
Green Berets, known as U.S. Army Special Forces, have been around since the early 1950s and have taken part in many classified missions as well as various combat scenarios. They tend to work in small teams, specializing in psychological and guerrilla tactics.
“The Green Berets’ initial goal was to carry out unconventional warfare to disrupt or dismantle enemy regimes, often partnering with local insurgents. Their roles now extend to counterterrorism, surveillance, training of foreign forces, and more immediate actions like hostage rescues,” the description elaborates.
In a video for the Foundation, Halfpop mentioned that one of his main motivations for aiding fellow veterans is to prevent further losses to suicide. He expressed hope that by continuing his service even after retirement, he could make a significant impact that would one day overshadow his military career, which he was proud to have had.
In a conversation with KOAA, Halfpop shared, “I really found purpose just in helping them, whether it’s a job…a hobby…or just taking care of them and their families.” This sentiment captures his dedication well.
