Former NFL Player Kevin Johnson Murdered
Kevin Johnson, a former defensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles, was found murdered earlier this year in a particularly brutal incident at a homeless encampment, according to officials. This tragic event occurred on January 21 near a riverbed in Los Angeles.
A report from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office revealed that Johnson had suffered serious injuries, including a skull fracture, brain contusion, and several sharp-impact wounds to his neck. It’s hard to grasp how devastating these injuries were.
Authorities noted that when a friend discovered Johnson, he was unresponsive and covered with tarps and debris. The scene was grim, to say the least, and the police received a call about this at approximately 8 a.m.
Autopsy results indicated that Johnson had traces of phencyclidine (known as angel dust) and methamphetamine in his system at the time of his death, which was a contributing factor to his unfortunate end.
Nearby, investigators found a bloody shovel, crutches, and a broken broom handle close to his body, alongside pieces of wood and a brick showing obvious signs of blood. It’s unsettling to think about what transpired there.
The report described multiple blunt force injuries leading to brain fragmentation and a severe intracerebral hemorrhage, which ultimately resulted in a fatal injury to his left carotid artery. The medical examiner concluded that his death was a homicide.
Johnson’s family informed investigators that he was a former NFL player, currently homeless, who had a history of drug use including methamphetamine. He reportedly had poor health but was somewhat mobile with the help of crutches.
At 55 years old, Johnson had played in the NFL during the 1990s. In March, authorities mentioned they were looking into whether his murder was linked to a series of other homicides involving homeless individuals in the Compton Creek area of Los Angeles. However, as of now, there seems to be no new information on this case.
