Carson Josevar’s Recent Success in NASCAR
In the past few weeks, things have been looking up for Carson Josevar, the driver of the No. 77 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports. He celebrated by taking home his first NASCAR Cup Series win at the Jack Links 500 at Talladega Superspeedway.
Shortly afterward, he made history as the first NASCAR driver since Jeff Gordon in 2010 to attend the Met Gala. It’s often filled with extravagant outfits, and while it might seem trivial to some, having a presence there is significant for the sport.
One can only imagine how thrilled Josevar’s family must be. But it’s a bit of a mystery which accomplishment thrilled his mother more: the win at Talladega or the Met Gala invitation.
While the NASCAR All-Star Race is taking place in Dover this weekend, Josevar made a stop at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway during the second day of practice for the Indianapolis 500. He spent time with Andretti Global—affiliated with Spire Motorsports—and also chatted with Will Buxton, James Hinchcliffe, and Townsend Bell in the FOX IndyCar booth.
During his visit, he shared his experience at the Met Gala, noting how excited his mother was about it. “It cracks me up because my mom thought winning at Talladega was cool, but for her, my attending the Met Gala was a dream come true,” he shared.
Interestingly, Josevar added that they were invited to the Met Gala by the organizers, clarifying that it wasn’t a case of NASCAR buying tables for the event.
“The wild part was that they reached out to NASCAR. It wasn’t about them paying for my tickets. It was like NASCAR offered the chance and asked if I wanted to go,” he explained. While the Met Gala garners considerable attention, having Josevar there was a boost for NASCAR, potentially drawing more eyes to the sport.
Now, there’s some speculation about how many viewers of the Met Gala broadcast might actually tune into the races. Personally, I doubt the numbers are as high as they might hope.
