Mets Await Update on Lindor Amid Injury Concerns
The Mets are on the brink of receiving new information regarding Francisco Lindor, and it really needs to be good news. Recently, Francisco Alvarez suffered a torn right meniscus, adding to the team’s injury woes, and there’s also concern about Juan Soto, who might leave the game early on Wednesday.
On Wednesday morning, Lindor underwent an additional MRI on his left calf, which he described as feeling tight. This was just ahead of the Mets’ 3-2 walk-off victory against the Tigers in the 10th inning at Citi Field.
Coach Carlos Mendoza anticipates having results by Thursday.
Lindor has been out of action since April 22 due to an injury he sustained while scoring from first base during a game against the Twins, which had ended a frustrating 12-game stretch for the team.
Initially, the outlook for the five-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner wasn’t optimistic regarding a quick return. However, Mendoza noted that Lindor “feels better,” which, if true, could energize the Mets significantly.
Juan Soto, who had missed the last 15 games with a strained right calf, returned in the same game as Lindor’s MRI. However, the situation worsened for the Mets when Alvarez was placed on the IL, meaning he’ll be sidelined for six to eight weeks. Meanwhile, Soto is expected to be available for the day after this situation unfolds. This comes on the heels of rookie AJ Ewing’s promotion, who had a standout performance, leading the Mets to a 10-2 victory on Tuesday and scoring the crucial goal on Wednesday.
When asked about his concerns regarding the roster’s capacity to reverse the team’s fortunes in Queens, Mendoza expressed confidence. He said he couldn’t dwell on that possibility. “My job is to bring out the best in them today and continue to do that one day at a time,” he stated. “Worrying about when they’ll return… doesn’t help us. Our focus should be on going out there and getting the job done.”
Before Wednesday’s matchup, Kodai Chiga, dealing with lumbar spondylitis, participated in a bullpen session with batters at Citi Field. Mendoza reported that Chiga “seemed to be okay,” and will decide on his next steps depending on how he feels.
Jared Young, recovering from a torn meniscus in his left knee, is slated to begin his rehab assignment by the week’s end.
