Granger Smith shares plans for a new book focused on faith after his departure from country music.

Granger Smith Begins a New Journey

Granger Smith is entering a fresh phase in his life. The country music artist, who transitioned away from the genre in 2023, is now focusing on ministry at a church near Austin, Texas. In an exclusive conversation, he shared details about his upcoming book, “Poison in the Well”, set to be released on September 8.

His last album, Like a River, came out earlier in 2023 and reflected his experiences of grief following the tragic drowning of his three-year-old son, River, in 2019.

Faith and Healing After Loss

Smith speaks deeply about how this new song feels particularly significant. He describes Like a River as intertwined with his personal journey through loss and healing, detailing how faith played an essential role. “In that period, God saved me,” he emphasized. “It completely altered my life and the life of my family.”

He noted that six months following his son’s death, he grappled with challenging questions about his faith. “What if my belief doesn’t have the strength to hold me?” Those feelings, he explains, are ones many confront in their darkest moments, whether due to loss, the end of a relationship, or other kinds of grief.

Exploration of Faith

Smith expressed that this book emerges from his extensive reflections, capturing not just his struggles but also the insights gained. He honestly questioned the very foundation of his faith during a time when hope felt elusive. “If I can’t find hope, then what am I standing on?” he recollected.

Since stepping away from the music scene, he has discovered fulfillment in connecting with others facing similar hardships. As a minister, he aims to provide comfort to those navigating through grief and doubt, encouraging them to reconsider their faith in tough times.

A Shift from Music to Ministry

Transitioning into ministry has shifted Smith’s priorities. He found joy in focusing on people rather than just entertainment. “I genuinely enjoy helping others, and that gives me peace,” he said. “I sleep soundly at night knowing I’ve made an effort.” This new direction, although different, still holds a space for music, allowing him to share Bible-based melodies with his family.

Smith aims to develop an album featuring uplifting Bible songs, inspired by his experiences and the desire to instill faith in his children.

The Future Is Uncertain

While he remains unclear about the future of his music career, one thing is evident: his passion for both music and ministry persists. “There are aspects of music I can’t entirely let go of,” he conceded.

Granger Smith’s journey, rich with personal trials and triumphs, invites others to reflect on their faith during life’s challenges, highlighting that pursuing a deeper connection with God can lead to healing and joy.
