Suspected Gunman Involved in Massachusetts Street Shooting Appears Disheveled in Initial Court Appearance

Shooting Incident in Cambridge, Massachusetts

A man allegedly responsible for firing over 60 shots in downtown Cambridge was in a semi-conscious state during his arraignment on Thursday.

On Monday, a Marine veteran and a Massachusetts State Trooper intervened when 46-year-old Tyler Brown indiscriminately fired at a vehicle on Memorial Drive. Appearing in court from a hospital bed, recovering from multiple gunshot wounds, Brown seemed barely aware of his surroundings, as seen in a video shared by CBS Boston reporter Christina Rex.

The brief clip shows Brown lying in a hospital bed, his head lowered, seemingly unresponsive as lawyers stood beside him.

Brown has a history of violent crimes and is accused of a reckless shooting spree that severely injured two people, occurring just days after his release from a psychiatric hospital, as reported by WBUR, a Boston-based NPR station.

In a past incident from May 2020, Brown reportedly attempted to kill a Boston police officer. He eventually pleaded guilty to armed assault with intent to murder, among other charges. Despite firing at least 13 shots from an illegally owned .40 caliber Glock, he was sentenced to only five to six years in prison.

Before the 2020 police encounter, Brown had previous convictions for witness intimidation and assault, according to various reports.
