Chargers poke fun at the Patriots in schedule release video with a clear Vrabel-Russini nod

Chargers’ Schedule Announcement Video Sparks Controversy with Patriots

The Los Angeles Chargers have a knack for creating standout schedule announcement videos, and their latest effort certainly didn’t hold back. The New England Patriots, along with their coach Mike Vrabel and former reporter Dianna Russini, might be feeling a bit let down after what was showcased on Thursday night.

In this particular video, which has a Halo theme and runs for 6 minutes and 13 seconds, the Chargers hinted at the complicated relationship between Vrabel and Russini. Interestingly, when the Chargers host the Patriots in Week 12 at SoFi Stadium, they make a bold statement, depicting a scenario where figures on ATVs receive a specific message, “NYPost sent you a message,” only to be wiped out shortly after.

You might remember that the New York Post’s Page Six first published photos of Vrabel and Russini enjoying themselves poolside and in a hot tub back in April. Those images, along with others, led to Russini resigning from The Athletic and essentially disappearing from social media.

Meanwhile, Vrabel has been quite evasive during press conferences, often avoiding the topic or providing vague answers. He even skipped the final day of the NFL Draft to attend what he termed “counseling” sessions with his family.

This isn’t the first time the Patriots and their coach have faced scrutiny concerning their connections with reporters. After a Mother’s Day salute to fans, the team was met with a wave of backlash online.

The Chargers took the opportunity to not only poke fun at the “situation” but also went after other teams. They critiqued the Ravens for not completing a trade for Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby and called out the New York Jets for their defensive struggles. Additionally, the Chargers pointed out the Patriots’ relatively easy schedule last season, flashing the message, “Conquer the cupcakes.”

Interestingly, the NFL doesn’t get involved in approving team schedule announcement videos, so they’re not taking sides or intervening in the Chargers’ cheeky take on the Patriots. If the Patriots felt uncomfortable with this 10-second jab, they’re likely to face ribbing from rival fans all season long.
