Josh Mauro, a former NFL player, passed away due to a drug overdose, as confirmed by the Maricopa County Coroner’s Office.
According to a case update from the California Post, it was determined that Mauro died from “acute combined fentanyl, cocaine, and ethanol intoxication.” Authorities classified his death as accidental.
His family shared the news of his death in a deeply emotional statement last month. They expressed their sorrow, highlighting their belief that Mauro is now at peace. “Through many tears and broken hearts, we are sustained by the unwavering belief that our precious Josh Mauro is now healed and renewed in the presence of the Lord,” his father stated on Facebook.
Police in Phoenix received a call around 12:20 p.m. on April 23 regarding a body discovered at Mauro’s residence. When officers arrived, they found the 35-year-old Mauro, who was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. A spokesperson for the department mentioned that there were no immediate indications of foul play.
Mauro’s NFL career began with the Arizona Cardinals in 2014, spanning eight seasons. He also played for the New York Giants and the Oakland Raiders, accumulating five sacks and 130 tackles across 80 games. The news of his passing sent shockwaves through the NFL community. Former teammate Maxx Crosby expressed his grief in a heartfelt video, stating he felt “sick to his stomach” and wished he could have done more for Mauro.
