Unusual snakes abandoned for officers pursuing suspect on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Surprise, indeed!

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department encountered an unusual situation while patrolling the Hollywood Walk of Fame. They found a man displaying an exotic snake, presumably for tips from tourists.

According to a post from the LAPD Hollywood account, the officers approached the man, but he made an attempt to escape, leaving several snakes behind. They humorously remarked, “Good luck, compatriots.”

As for what happened next, it’s unclear if the man was charged or arrested. Keeping certain exotic pets without a permit is illegal in California, and local sellers need permits for any commercial activities.

The incident unfolded as officers were conducting patrols in the area. It seems the man could not stick around once confronted, leaving behind the reptiles.

The department added a lighthearted quip, saying, “Today, it appears his escape plan is the only thing that is in trouble.”

In their social media update, they referenced a song titled “La Culebra” by Vanda Machos, which cautions people to watch for snakes. They playfully included the phrase, “’Ay la culebra!’ (Watch out for that snake!).”

While owning a snake in California isn’t outright illegal, certain types require a “Restricted Species Permit,” which involves various fees and regulations.
