Two Fighter Jets Crash in the Sky, Leading to Service Members Ejecting and Air Force Base Closure

Midair Collision of Navy Jets at Mountain Home Air Force Base

On Sunday, two U.S. Navy jets collided during a flight demonstration at Mountain Home Air Force Base, and fortunately, all four service members involved managed to eject safely.

The incident occurred about two miles northwest of a facility that houses F-15E Strike Eagles. Social media showed footage of an EA-18G Growler, part of the 129th Electronic Warfare Squadron, apparently crashing before the crew ejected.

Reports indicated that both jets exploded midair during the Gunfighter Sky Air Show. The Mountain Home Police Department announced that the air show has been canceled, urging spectators not to attempt to access the base. They thanked the community for their understanding and encouraged sharing this announcement.

Previous air shows at this location have seen other incidents as well. In 2003, an F-16 from the Thunderbirds was involved in an accident, and there was a fatal crash of a glider in 2018.

The EA-18G Growler primarily operates from Navy aircraft carriers, equipped for electronic warfare with jamming pods and anti-radiation missiles. The F-15E Strike Eagle, utilized by both the U.S. Air Force and Singapore Air Force, is a versatile fighter jet. As of now, the 366th Fighter Wing has not commented on this latest incident.
