Convicted Murderer Faces Charges for Shooting and Carjacking Spree

Man Charged with Shooting and Robbery After Past Murder Conviction

A man, previously convicted of murder, has been charged in connection with a shooting and robbery in Maryland that resulted in injuries to two individuals. According to multiple reports, Larry James Simpson, 68, is set to appear in court in Prince George’s County on Monday.

Authorities allege that on Friday, Simpson carjacked two vehicles and wounded multiple people. He was sentenced to life in prison plus 40 years in 1987 for first-degree murder. Interestingly, court records indicate he was released at some point after undergoing a medical evaluation, although the details surrounding this release remain unclear.

In total, Simpson faces 66 charges related to the recent incidents, which include a staggering 32 counts of attempted murder. As of now, state court records do not list his current case or legal representation; even his name was absent from state reports.

Records also reveal that Simpson underwent an “in-custody evaluation” by the Maryland Department of Health in 2022 and was given a year of unsupervised probation. Attempts to get comments from the local news outlet regarding this matter were unsuccessful.

Simpson has a history of criminal activity, having been convicted in 1987 for robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. He also pleaded guilty to attempted escape in a different case from that same year.

Reports from WUSA9 indicate that an off-duty police officer from Prince George’s County witnessed Simpson carjacking a vehicle on Friday and started to follow him. Across five incidents, Simpson is alleged to have fired several shots through a car window, injuring a 64-year-old man with flying glass, and crashed into another vehicle. Additionally, he is charged with seriously injuring someone else in a separate shooting and fatally shooting the owner of another car he tried to steal.

At the time of his arrest, law enforcement found an AR-15 style rifle at the scene. The investigation is ongoing, and it’s possible further charges could be forthcoming.
