Erewhon Expanding to Costa Mesa with New Grocery Store

Upscale grocery chain Erewhon is set to establish a new location in Orange County, specifically in Costa Mesa.

This marketplace, famous for its high-priced smoothies and wellness products, is advancing its plans for this site. The arrival marks a significant move for the LA-based brand, which has become a hallmark of luxury wellness culture, enticing various customers including influencers and celebrities drawn to $20 smoothies and organic groceries.

The upcoming store will be the largest Erewhon outlet yet, spanning 20,000 square feet. It will occupy a warehouse at 140 East 17th Street, previously home to a T-shirt shop.

Scheduled to open in September 2027, this endeavor illustrates Erewhon’s rapid growth beyond its original Los Angeles roots, having previously opened stores in locations like Beverly Hills and West Hollywood. Now, they’re targeting Orange County.

For residents of Costa Mesa, this means an influx of shoppers, content creators, and wellness aficionados seeking the latest trendy spots. Erewhon has been a significant part of the LA lifestyle, and its expansion is seen as important for the affluent demographic of Orange County.

Online reactions have ranged from excitement to concern. One real estate agent observed that beyond the hype of expensive smoothies and eggs, this move reflects broader economic and cultural shifts in parts of Orange County.

Conversely, users on Reddit turned the opening news into a rivalry between LA and OC cultures, expressing sentiments about maintaining their regional identity amidst changing trends.

This new store will be part of Erewhon’s ongoing expansion, which has transitioned from a niche health food store in the 1960s to a cultural phenomenon with 12 existing locations and five more in the pipeline.
