Ilhan Omar Under DOJ Investigation, Says Vice President J.D. Vance
Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar from Minnesota is currently being investigated by the Department of Justice (DOJ), Vice President J.D. Vance revealed during a press conference on Tuesday.
The vice president spoke on behalf of White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt. During the event, Daily Caller correspondent Reagan Reese inquired about the potential for Omar facing indictment. An investigation by the Justice Department, initiated under former President Joe Biden in 2024, has reportedly lost momentum.
Reese asked, “I want to ask you about the Fraud Task Force. You’ve mentioned that it seems Ilhan Omar has committed immigration fraud. Are you expecting charges related to that?”
Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed that Ilhan Omar is under investigation.
“I’m not going to prejudge the investigation. But, looking at things about Ilhan Omar—who she married and whether she married this person or another—there certainly seems to be something off,” he commented.
Vance added, “I don’t want to assume anything about the investigation. Everyone deserves equal justice under the law. We’re examining the situation, and if a crime is evident, we will pursue it.”
The New York Times notes that Omar is being scrutinized for possible issues related to campaign spending, personal property, and connections with non-U.S. citizens. This probe was initiated by federal prosecutors in Washington, D.C., in June 2024, under the Integrity Division of the DOJ. However, the investigation reportedly stalled when no substantial evidence was found, according to an insider who requested anonymity.
The Daily Caller reached out for comments from Omar’s office and the DOJ but had not received any response by the time of reporting.
