Justin Herbert of the Chargers skips another voluntary practice

Where is Justin Herbert?

It seems that Justin Herbert, the quarterback for the Chargers, has been noticeably absent from two voluntary Phase 2 practices that were open to media coverage, including the session held this Tuesday, as noted by Daniel Popper from The Athletic.

While he isn’t required to attend these practices at this point in the offseason, his absence stands out. The Chargers are in the midst of implementing a new offense with offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel. This transition is crucial, especially with a number of free agents and rookies joining the fray. Early practice reps could really help in building essential chemistry and cohesion among players, particularly since the team might see four new starters this season.

With only three quarterbacks currently on the roster, backup quarterbacks Trey Lance and DJ Uiagalelei have been taking on the majority of the first-team reps in Herbert’s place.

Last season, Herbert faced quite a bit of pressure, finishing with 54 sacks, a record high for any eligible quarterback. Even so, he managed 3,727 passing yards with 26 touchdowns and completed 66.4% of his passes. It’s impressive that he maintained solid efficiency metrics despite the challenges he faced, and expectations are running high as we delve into the 2026 season.

Interestingly, the odds reflect a sense of optimism around the team. The Chargers are projected to win about 9.5 games this season. DraftKings has them listed with the seventh best odds for winning the Super Bowl. Herbert himself is regarded as a strong MVP candidate, alongside notable players like Joe Burrow and Patrick Mahomes, while Josh Allen is currently leading the pack.

On a personal note, Herbert’s relationship with pop artist Madison Beer has been making headlines. Beer is currently on the European leg of her Rocket Tour, with scheduled stops in Berlin and plans to hit Amsterdam and Paris soon.
