Directory for finding Black doctors faces lawsuit for discrimination.

Legal Action Against Find A Black Doctor

A conservative legal organization has initiated a lawsuit against the Find A Black Doctor website, claiming it discriminates against doctors by restricting its listings solely to Black medical practitioners.

The lawsuit, lodged in a Manhattan federal court by De No Harm and Dr. Travis Morrell, a dermatologist from Colorado, specifically targets the site and its founder, New York dermatologist Dr. Dina Strachan.

The legal complaint contends that the directory explicitly bars non-Black physicians from being included, stating that only “Black physicians and dentists practicing in clinical practice” can qualify.

Plaintiffs assert that the site promotes the notion of “racial concordance,” suggesting that patients may receive superior care from doctors of the same race.

Find A Black Doctor positions itself as a resource aimed at enhancing healthcare access in Black communities by connecting patients with Black doctors.

Those opting to be included in the directory must provide extensive personal and professional details and agree to specific usage terms, allowing the site to keep and publish their information.

Do No Harm, which claims membership exceeding 50,000, argues that the directory adversely impacts health professionals excluded based on race.

The complaint emphasizes that, “Only ‘Black physicians and dentists’ are eligible; other races cannot be listed or applied in any meaningful way.”

Attempts to reach Dr. Strachan for comments have been made.

Dr. Morrell, who serves patients of various backgrounds in Grand Junction, Colorado, noted that many of his patients are Black. He submitted his application to be listed on December 23, 2025, but reportedly did not receive a response.

After following up several months later, Morrell noted that he experienced “only silence” regarding his application, which the lawsuit claims was essentially “constructively denied because he is white.”

The directory currently displays only three doctors from Colorado, and notably lacks any dermatologists within the state, according to the complaint.

The lawsuit also criticizes language on the website that encourages Black men to seek primary care from Black doctors.

The plaintiffs argue that the directory depends on “harmful, offensive, and racist stereotypes,” and that its assertions regarding race and healthcare outcomes lack support and validity.

In their legal filing, Do No Harm and Dr. Morrell are requesting a court order to prohibit the directory from considering race in its application process, as well as compelling the acceptance of Morrell’s application. They are also pursuing both compensatory and punitive damages.
