Transgender actor Jynx Monsoon features in the BBC and Disney’s unsuccessful 2024 season of Doctor Who. He mentioned that every time he walks past Trump Tower in New York, he visualizes casting a hex on Donald Trump with the hope of causing harm to the former president.
Appearing alongside RuPaul’s Drag Race winners in recent episodes of a podcast called Monet Speaks, the topic of witchcraft came up, as reported by Pink News.
“If hexes are real, then why is Donald Trump still alive?” the host, Monet, questioned.
“Because sometimes these things take a bit of time,” Monsoon responded. “Donald Trump symbolizes a much larger issue… His dedicated followers provide him a certain protection. That energy surrounds him.”
“But this also means that when change does come, it’s going to be significant. He embodies a lot of what’s wrong in our country and the world, so I believe we may need something substantial to shift that perspective. I really think it’s on the horizon,” the activist added.
Monet confessed to buying a couple of “hexes” against Trump from an Etsy seller but noted that he hasn’t seen any results.
“You can’t really put a deadline on magic,” Jynx remarked, and they then delved into a more serious conversation about the nature of magical practices.
“This sort of mail-order magic seems questionable. I’ve never heard a witch say, ‘We guarantee results in two weeks.’ That seems too good to be true. Hand over your money, and someone will do it for you,” Jinx commented.
Monsoon suggested that magic tends to yield better results when the practitioner invests personal energy into it. He recommended that witches should cultivate their own herbs and create their own materials instead of just purchasing ready-made items. “For your magic to be truly effective, you need to be personally invested,” he asserted.
In his role within Doctor Who, he stated, “The evil eye carries a lot of power,” and added, “Every time I walk by Trump Tower in New York, I’m thinking, ‘Hmm.'”
“Have you seen the chaos?!” Monsoon concluded. “‘Hello! You’re not welcome! You’re out! That’s me at Trump Tower: ‘You’re out!’
Jynx Monsoon, whose real name is Jerrick Hoffer, changed his name to Hera Lilith Hoffer in 2013. Nine years later, he made history as the first winner of two seasons of RuPaul’s Drag Race.
In 2024, Monsoon portrayed the villain “Maestro” in the latest season of Doctor Who, co-produced by Disney and the BBC. This season, featuring actor Ncuti Gatwa as the 15th Doctor, received notably low viewer ratings, leaving the future of the show uncertain. Gatwa departed after just two years, and the partnership between Disney and the BBC, which initially held much promise, was ultimately dissolved.
Over the years, Monsoon has made several political statements. In 2023, he claimed that LGBTQ+ individuals aren’t targeting children and labeled some actions by Republicans as “objectively evil.” Ironically, later that year, a rally in New York had attendees chanting, “We’re here, we’re queer, we’re coming for your kids.”
He also anticipated a violent uprising in response to the Trump administration’s decision to fire openly transgender service members during its second term, although such an uprising never occurred.
