Stabbings and Chaos at Rhode Island Beaches

On Tuesday, three beachgoers were stabbed, leading to a chaotic scene as hundreds of teenagers took over a busy New England beach, resulting in fights and necessary evacuations.

The stabbing happened shortly after 3 p.m. at Narragansett Town Beach, where temperatures soared into the 90s. This beach is a favored summer spot in southern Rhode Island.

Narragansett Police Chief Kyle Lekas mentioned that when officers arrived, they found three individuals with minor stab wounds. He posted details of the incident on Facebook.

No suspects have been identified yet, nor has a motive for the stabbings been established.

It’s uncertain if the victims were acquainted or if they were just random targets.

Chief Lekas reported that first responders treated the injured before taking them to a local hospital for their minor injuries.

The stabbing created a panic among the beachgoers, with many hastily trying to leave the crowded area.

“There were some minor disturbances as people were trying to exit simultaneously, which caused some chaos at the scene,” Lekas added.

In a separate incident about 32 miles away in Middletown, Rhode Island, roughly 1,200 teenagers gathered at Sachuest Bay’s Second Beach, according to local police.

A peaceful situation turned chaotic around 12:45 p.m. as a beachgoer began provoking the crowd.

When police detained the individual causing the disturbance, another person attacked the officers, leading to further unruliness among the crowd.

Authorities ended up using pepper spray to break up the gathering.

A witness, Connor Defreitas, expressed his disbelief, saying, “It’s pretty crazy that not much happens around here. It’s unusual for something like this to occur.”

During the melee at Second Beach, reports of a large fight surfaced.

An anonymous witness recounted, “There was a lot of blood.” Several teenagers, aged between 17 and 19, were subsequently arrested for disorderly conduct and for interfering with police efforts.

One 18-year-old from Massachusetts, Ronan Pinkham, allegedly struck a police officer with his car as he attempted to flee the scene. He confessed to being under the influence while driving.

Pinkham is facing charges of felony assault and driving under the influence.
