Authorities have taken Thomas Caleb Butler, 32, into custody on allegations of attempting to murder the owner of a well-known house adorned with Trump memorabilia in Escondido. The attack occurred outside this notable residence, which has sparked community complaints over the years regarding its decorations and behavior, with residents expressing their frustrations online.
The attack took place around 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street. Following the assault, the elderly victim was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries and currently remains in critical condition, as per police reports.
Butler, a local resident, reportedly fled the scene on foot but was soon apprehended nearby by law enforcement officers. As of Thursday morning, he had not yet been formally charged, nor is he eligible for bail. If convicted of first-degree attempted murder, he could face a lengthy prison sentence.
Residents in the area have a history of voicing their discontent regarding the “Trump House,” sharing stories about its peculiar displays. Some even mentioned confrontations; one individual noted how they would yell at the house while passing by. This ongoing tension seems to reflect a broader community sentiment towards the property.
Butler is set to appear in court again on Friday, where more details regarding the case may emerge.
