This week, the CEO of JPMorgan Chase & Co., Jamie Dimon, expressed concerns regarding New York City’s democratic socialist mayor, Zoran Mamdani, and his progressive policies.
During a Thursday interview with Bloomberg TV, Dimon pointed out that while the mayor has a lot to say, the city’s conditions are worsening. The New York Post covered this on Thursday.
“I don’t care what he says. What is he doing? I judge that… You can talk all you want about morality and ideology, but if things don’t get better, you haven’t done a good job,” Dimon stated.
He added, “And my view, which I’m sharing now, is that I’ve seen mayors speak out, and they’re making things worse. They don’t understand why affordable housing is hard to find. I can’t delve into specifics, but hopefully, he learns. I want him to succeed. I’m not against him.”
Nevertheless, Mamdani has expressed his intent to target the wealthy and implement more leftist policies, fulfilling a pledge he made in April, as reported by Breitbart News.
“When I ran for mayor, I said I would tax the wealthy. Today, I am happy to announce the first pied-à-terre tax in New York history—a yearly fee on luxury properties worth $5 million or more, owned by those who don’t reside in the city full-time, such as this penthouse bought by hedge fund CEO Ken Griffin for $238 million,” he stated.
The report also noted that Mamdani attended an event honoring Communist and Socialist May Day, where he reiterated his commitment to taxing New York’s wealthy.
Allegations surfaced that Communist literature distributed at these events called for the abolition of the current capitalist system, to be replaced by a new socialist framework grounded in a constitution for a new socialist republic in America.
On a different note, the Post mentioned that Dimon, along with other business leaders, made these remarks following a meeting with the mayor.
Earliery this year, JPMorgan Chase & Co. drew attention when it confirmed that it had closed over 50 bank accounts linked to President Donald Trump after his first term, as reported by Breitbart News.
