Graduation Ceremony Brawl in Ohio
A chaotic altercation involving family members occurred during a kindergarten graduation ceremony at a Catholic school in Toledo, Ohio. The incident unfolded on Thursday, resulting in one woman needing hospital treatment and another facing imprisonment.
Witnesses reported that tensions flared when a family began to reserve multiple rows of seats for themselves at Queen of the Apostles School. This quickly spiraled into conflict, as others grew frustrated by the seating situation.
Jessica Anderson, 28, allegedly began verbally assaulting her parents when they attempted to claim some of the seats she was occupying. Craig Mays, a fellow parent, noted that he tried to diffuse the situation, but before he knew it, he was overwhelmed by Anderson’s relatives.
Mays recounted, “I honestly can’t recall much of what happened. All I remember is getting hit pretty badly.” He described how several men from Anderson’s family charged at him during the scuffle.
Footage of the altercation showed several individuals attacking a man who was down on the ground while others attempted to separate the fighting parties.
When Mays’ ex-partner intervened, Anderson allegedly yanked her away by her hair, a moment that a witness captured on camera.
The confrontation escalated further, with the two women grappling and striking each other. According to reports, it appeared that Mays’ ex-partner was thrown against a metal chair, while Mays himself was pushed out of the chaotic scene.
The woman ultimately required stitches due to her injuries, as detailed in an affidavit obtained by law enforcement. Anderson has since been arrested and charged with a felony.
Meanwhile, the children were practicing for their upcoming graduation in a separate room during the melee. The school has reassured families that all students are safe, and that the graduation celebrations will go on as planned.
It’s not yet clear if the school will reschedule another graduation ceremony. Mays, a kindergarten teacher himself, expressed disappointment, stating, “I know how hard the kids work, and it just breaks my heart that I won’t witness my daughter’s graduation because of our selfishness in a situation like this.”
