The WNBA has issued a warning to the Indiana Fever for failing to report Caitlin Clark’s injury status ahead of their matchup against the Portland Fire. It turns out that the Fever disclosed Clark’s injury just two hours before Wednesday’s game. Interestingly, she wasn’t included in the team’s injury report because she hadn’t practiced the day before.
The league mandates that teams must submit injury reports by 5 p.m. the day before a game. If a player’s condition changes overnight or early in the morning, teams are expected to update the reports. This oversight led to the warning from the league, as noted by the Associated Press.
As for Clark, she is expected to play in the Fever’s upcoming home game against the Golden State Valkyries. However, her previous season was challenging, marked by several injuries—one before the All-Star break and another during recovery.
In a recent statement, Clark mentioned lingering issues, saying, “My back comes off the line quickly,” following her team’s opening loss. Nevertheless, she seems to be bouncing back, having averaged 24.3 points, nine assists, and five rebounds in her first four games back on the court.
In their victory over the Seattle Storm, she contributed significantly with 21 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds. It seems like she’s working her way back to top form, although her past injuries could still play a role in her performance moving forward.
