Apollo 12 crew discusses unexplained 'streaks of light' in released UFO documents

Pentagon Unveils New Batch of UFO Files

On Friday, the Pentagon shared a new set of declassified UFO documents. Among these was audio from the Apollo 12 astronauts discussing a peculiar “ray of light” they saw while attempting to rest in deep space.

This audio, from a 1969 medical debriefing following their mission, highlights that astronauts Pete Conrad, Richard Gordon, and Alan Bean reported unusual flashes of light—despite their eyes being closed.

“Each astronaut detailed that these experiences happened while they were trying to sleep in the darkness,” says a note on the Pentagon’s UFO records site.

NASA’s medical team later determined that the phenomena described by the Apollo 12 crew stemmed from their own vision, not from any external light source.

The 222 new files released are part of a second round of documents published on the Department of the Army’s website, which followed President Trump’s directive to disclose government reports about unidentified flying objects.

Included in this release is a comprehensive 116-page document concerning a series of purported sightings and investigations at a secret site in Sandia, New Mexico, from 1948 to 1950.

This file chronicles 209 sightings involving “green spheres,” “saurs,” and “fireballs” detected near military installations, according to the Pentagon.

Additionally, more than 50 previously classified videos have been made public, featuring various encounters with military aircraft.

The earlier batch of documents, released on May 8, contained reports from the Apollo 17 lunar crew, which described bizarre footage of an “eight-pointed star” traversing the sky, as well as odd bright sparks resembling “Independence Day” fireworks in space.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth remarked that these documents, images, and videos, categorized as “unidentified anomalous phenomena,” have generated a lot of speculation over the years.

“It’s time for the American people to see it for themselves,” he stated.

The Department of the Army has indicated they are preparing to unveil a third set of UFO files soon.

Efforts to declassify documents related to UFOs have been underway for years within the Department of Defense.
