Kyle Busch Passes Away at Age 41

Kyle Busch passed away on Thursday at the age of 41, making him the first active NASCAR driver to die since Dale Earnhardt in 2001.

Just hours before his death, Busch’s family shared a statement revealing that the two-time Cup champion had been hospitalized due to a “serious illness” and would miss the upcoming race in Charlotte. The cause of his death has not yet been made public.

Reports from the Associated Press indicated that Busch collapsed while using a Chevrolet simulator the day before and was subsequently admitted to a hospital in Charlotte. Sources confirmed this timeline to various outlets.

NASCAR referred to Busch as a “future Hall of Famer” and a “rare talent” in a statement released that evening.

“Over a career that spanned more than two decades, Kyle set records for wins in the national series, secured championships at NASCAR’s highest levels, and helped develop the next generation of drivers as a Truck Series owner,” the statement continued.

It highlighted how his sharp wit and competitive nature fostered a strong emotional bond with fans, creating a dedicated following known as ‘Rowdy Nation.’

Kyle Busch’s Recent Achievements

Busch was a two-time Cup champion with a career that began in the Cup Series in 2004. He participated in 762 races and accumulated 63 wins, alongside 234 victories across all NASCAR national series. His last win was a week before his death.

Additionally, he holds the all-time record for wins in both the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series (102) and the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (69).

Most recently, Busch celebrated a dominant Truck Series victory, leading 147 laps. After that win, he remarked, “You never know when your last time will be.”

A prominent figure in NASCAR, Busch had a long-standing affiliation with Joe Gibbs Racing, where he took home two championships. He was set to join Richard Childress Racing following the 2022 season and had already secured three wins in his first season there.

This sudden loss is a harsh reminder, coming just months after the tragic passing of former Cup driver Greg Biffle, who died in a plane crash with his family in December.
