Rob Bass Passes Away After Battle with Cancer

Rob Bass, best known as one half of the iconic hip-hop duo Rob Bass & DJ EZ Rock, has sadly passed away just days after celebrating his 59th birthday. His real name was Robert Ginyard, and he succumbed to a private battle with cancer.

In a heartfelt announcement, the family shared, “Today, we share the heartbreaking news that hip-hop legend Rob Bass passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 22, 2026 after a private battle with cancer.” The statement reflected on his musical legacy, saying, “Rob’s music, energy and legacy helped shape generations and brought joy to millions of people around the world.” It also emphasized his role as a loving father and creative force whose influence will endure.

An array of stars took to social media to express their condolences. DJ Kid Capri shared his shock, stating, “What the heck? I was on the phone with him a few months ago to get the sample removed and he didn’t say anything about being sick!!! This is horrible.” Eazy Mo B. also offered his sympathies, writing, “Rest in peace Rob Bass 🙏❤️🕊 Much love and condolences to his family and loved ones. May God bless and protect them.”

Rob Bass and DJ EZ Rock gained fame in 1988 with their hit “It Takes Two.” This song blended rap, dance, and funk, quickly becoming a high-energy anthem that crossed over into various music charts. It eventually achieved platinum status and remains influential in hip-hop culture, often sampled in movies and commercials.

Born and raised in Harlem, Bass and EZ Rock were childhood friends before launching their musical career. Sadly, DJ EZ Rock passed away in 2014 due to diabetes-related complications.

Throughout his career, even after his peak success, Bass continued to engage with fans by touring on nostalgic hip-hop events like the “I Love the 90s Tour.” Moreover, he volunteered his expertise, helping to mentor emerging artists through his company, Funky Base Inc.
