Rainy weather is likely to affect Memorial Day weekend plans for many on the East Coast.

Thunderstorms are expected to disrupt Memorial Day weekend plans, particularly along the East Coast, starting Thursday.

Meanwhile, folks on the West Coast are experiencing pleasant weather, with temperatures 5 to 10 degrees above average and sunny skies that should last through the weekend.

Saturday forecast

Key travel destinations like Denver, Los Angeles, and Seattle should see minimal weather-related issues as the weekend kicks off.

Conversely, the Southern Plains, Southeast, and Northeast are bracing for heavy rainfall, which could diminish outdoor activities.

With over 45 million people traveling for the holiday, significant disruptions are anticipated at major airports, including those in New York, New Jersey, Atlanta, and New Orleans.

The FOX Prediction Center believes this storm won’t reach severe levels, but areas in the Southern Plains and the Texas Gulf Coast, especially Houston and southern Louisiana, will face a tier 2 flash flood risk.

Sunday forecast

As we move into Sunday, drier weather is expected in parts of the Northern and Central Plains, with pleasant temperatures ranging from the low to mid 80s. It’s a typical late spring vibe that many appreciate.

However, the Northeast will continue to feel the effects of a low-pressure system, bringing wet and humid conditions, which might translate to travel delays.

And it’s not just the Northeast facing these challenges; Texas and Louisiana are also likely to experience ongoing rain and the ever-looming risk of flash flooding.

According to the FOX Prediction Center, there’s some good news: a shift in high pressure could push moisture away, allowing for warmer and drier conditions across much of the Midwest and New England.

Yet, showers and heavy rainfall may linger in areas such as the Carolinas, Tennessee River Valley, and Gulf Coast.

For those on the West Coast, dry and sunny conditions are expected to continue, making it a great weekend for outdoor activities. Sure, there’s a chance of some rain in the Pacific Northwest on Sunday afternoon, but overall it looks like a pleasant weekend for vacationers.
