Danica Patrick Honors NASCAR Legend Kyle Busch

Danica Patrick has added her voice to the many expressing grief over the unexpected death of NASCAR icon Kyle Busch.

The former driver, who has experience in IndyCar and NASCAR, shared her feelings of shock and sadness regarding Busch’s passing, labeling it a “devastating loss” for both his family and the broader racing community.

“I think it’s something we’re all trying to process. It’s just—I mean, shocking. None of us saw this coming,” Patrick remarked during a recent appearance. “When I first heard there was an issue, I thought it was something related to his racing, but it turned out to be entirely different.”

“Regardless of how people felt about him, Kyle Busch was a person—polarizing, yes, but undeniably a remarkable driver who will be remembered as one of NASCAR’s true greats. It’s a larger loss, in many ways.”

Patrick went on to praise Busch for his exceptional skills on the track, noting that he achieved an impressive 234 Cup Series victories, along with two championships and a record-setting three National Series wins.

“People often ask me what makes a great driver,” she continued. “And I’ve often thought of Kyle Busch as someone who exemplified that. When he was behind the wheel, it seemed like he entered a different level of focus,” she reflected.

“Those drivers who can tap into that extra gear tend to be at the top of their game. To me, he frequently reached that level. His speed and passion were incredible—he always aimed to be the best.”

Patrick competed against Busch in the top tier of NASCAR from 2012 until 2018.

Busch passed away on Thursday at the age of 41, after being hospitalized for what his family described as a serious illness.

On Saturday, it was revealed that he succumbed to severe pneumonia.

Patrick joins a multitude of former NASCAR legends who have taken a moment to pay tribute to Busch following his untimely death.
