Trump describes Iran discussions as ‘organized and positive’

Trump Addresses Iran Negotiations with Cautious Optimism

In a noticeably softer tone compared to his earlier statements, President Donald Trump remarked that discussions between the United States and Iran are “proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner.” He mentioned that the U.S. holds an advantage in terms of time.

“Negotiations are proceeding in an orderly and constructive manner. I have told our delegates not to rush to an agreement as time is on our side,” Trump shared on Truth Social.

While his tone has shifted, Trump firmly stated that Iran will not be able to develop or acquire nuclear weapons. The emphasis on this point appears to remain a top priority. Additionally, he confirmed that the naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz will remain until an agreement is reached.

“The blockade will remain in full force until an agreement is reached, certified, and signed. Both sides must take their time and get it right. Make no mistake! Relations with Iran are becoming more professional and productive. But they must understand that they cannot develop or procure nuclear weapons or bombs,” he added.

Furthermore, Trump expressed gratitude towards other Middle Eastern nations for their support, hinting at the potential signing of more agreements similar to the Abraham Accords, which aim to foster relations between Israel and Arab states.

“I would like to thank all the Middle Eastern countries for all their support and cooperation so far. By joining the countries of the historic Abraham Accords, support and cooperation will be further strengthened, and perhaps the Islamic Republic of Iran will also want to join as well,” he noted.

He also took the opportunity to criticize the previous Iran nuclear deal crafted under former President Barack Obama, labeling it a “direct path” to nuclear weapon development for Iran.

“One of the worst deals our country has ever had is the Iran nuclear deal proposed and signed by Barack Hussein Obama and the Obama administration’s amateurs. It was a direct path to Iran’s nuclear weapons development. That is not the deal the Trump administration is currently negotiating with Iran. In fact, just the opposite!” he stated.

Negotiations with Iran have been ongoing since a fragile ceasefire was announced in early April, although there have been moments that seemed stagnant. The president has previously asserted that the U.S. remains ready for military action if necessary.

Just last week, Trump revealed that he had paused military attack plans against Iran at the request of several regional allies right before they were scheduled to be executed.
