Gordon Ramsay’s Household Rule: The Importance of Manners
Gordon Ramsay, known for his fiery demeanor on cooking shows, has shared a surprising rule in his home—one that isn’t related to culinary skills. At the FOX Upfront 2026 event, Ramsay explained that the fundamental lesson he wishes to impart to his six children is about respect.
Speaking to FOX News Digital, he said, “One thing I taught all of them really well was manners. It’s the most important thing in life, but it doesn’t cost money.” This sentiment reflects Ramsay’s belief that good manners are essential, irrespective of one’s achievements or circumstances.

Ramsay’s guidance applies to all aspects of his children’s lives, whether they’re in the military, studying, or dealing with their father’s public fame. Along with his wife Tana, he has helped raise their children: Megan, Jack, Holly, Matilda, Oscar, and Jesse. Each of them, it seems, is forging their own unique path.
Interestingly, Tana noted that growing up in large families helped them navigate their own parenting journey. “I’m one of four and Gordon is one of four, so it’s kind of second nature to me,” she mentioned. This background likely contributes to their household dynamics.
Career-wise, Ramsay has built an empire that includes restaurants, television, and social media. Yet, he emphasizes keeping things in perspective at home. He has been clear about not wanting to lose the personal touch that keeps his family grounded.
When asked what continues to frustrate him in the kitchen—despite years of experience—Ramsay was quick to respond. He expressed his annoyance with those who season food only at the end of the cooking process. “Seasoning should begin early on,” he advised. “It’s crucial for achieving that depth of flavor.” He believes it’s important not to overlook this process, considering it integral to cooking.
Ramsay’s love for competitive cooking shows is still alive, driven by the mix of personalities in the kitchen. “The interaction between social media stars, amateurs, and professionals creates interesting dynamics, which I find exciting,” he shared.
With the renewal of several shows, including “Kitchen Nightmares” and “Hell’s Kitchen,” viewers can expect more of Ramsay’s unique approach to not just cooking but also life lessons.
