Friend of ‘Virgin River’ actor sensed ‘serious issues’ on the morning of disappearance

'Virgin River' actor Stewart McLean thought to be a victim of homicide, according to police.

Investigation into Stewart MacLean’s Disappearance Turns to Homicide

A close friend of Stewart MacLean, the actor from “Virgin River,” felt something was seriously amiss the morning he went missing. Jeff Seymour, an acting coach, shared his concerns in a recent interview, discussing how MacLean’s absence on a filming day raised alarm bells.

“He was meticulous about everything, so it was unusual for him not to show up. The moment we heard he hadn’t arrived on Saturday morning, we sensed there was a significant issue,” Seymour remarked.

Authorities have since shifted the investigation into MacLean’s case towards a homicide inquiry. Seymour expressed confusion over the situation. “It makes no sense at all. He was always very aware of his surroundings,” he stated, voicing his frustration over the lack of clarity.

Having known MacLean for eight years, Seymour spoke highly of him, noting his popularity and the absence of any dangerous affiliations. “Everyone adored him. He wasn’t involved in anything shady—he was more of a loner who preferred his books and his home in Squamish,” he said. “This is just shocking. I really hope justice prevails.”

MacLean was reported missing on May 18, with the Squamish RCMP launching an investigation right away. The actor, aged 45, was last seen at his home in Lions Bay on May 15.

In a press release from the RCMP, it was announced that there was evidence suggesting MacLean was a homicide victim. “Through their investigative efforts, the Squamish RCMP has gathered information indicating that Mr. MacLean faced foul play,” the statement detailed.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was deployed on May 20 to take over the case. They are collaborating with the Squamish RCMP and forensic services as they examine evidence and review footage to piece together MacLean’s activities leading up to his disappearance.

MacLean was known for his roles in various popular series, including Netflix’s “Virgin River,” “Arrow,” “Happy Face,” and “Small Town Murder.” He had also worked behind the scenes, contributing as a producer for shows like “Travelers” and “Beyond,” leaving a notable mark in the Canadian entertainment scene.
