Rosenqvist Claims Victory at the 110th Indianapolis 500

In an exhilarating race, Felix Rosenqvist secured a stunning victory at the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500. He executed a brilliant move to overtake David Markus in the final stretch, preventing Markus from achieving his first IndyCar win. Remarkably, the finish was recorded as the closest in the history of the Indy 500, with Rosenqvist finishing just 0.023 seconds ahead.

Scott McLaughlin took third place, followed closely by Pato O’Ward, marking his third consecutive Indy 500 with finishes of second, third, and fourth.

However, the race faced a significant moment when Brazilian driver Caio Colletto experienced a serious accident with just seven laps left. He lost control, crashed into the wall, and his car ultimately burst into flames. Thankfully, Colletto emerged unharmed, although his incident prompted a red flag situation. During this pause, teams were restricted to bringing only a fan, water, and batteries into their cars—no adjustments to fuel or tires were permitted.

Diving back into the action, Rosenqvist managed to pass O’Ward for the lead. Despite having previously led the race, O’Ward remarked that his car wasn’t keeping up, calling himself a “sitting duck” after the race. Still, each driver was pushing hard as they neared the finish line.

As the race resumed with four laps remaining, Rosenqvist’s teammate Marcus Armstrong briefly took the lead. But, just like that, the caution flag waved again, slowing the race. Ultimately, the conclusion arrived with a green-white checkered flag.

In a final scramble, Rosenqvist executed a last-minute maneuver that propelled him past Markus, celebrating his victory with his team. After the finish, Markus expressed how he thought his car had been the fastest from start to finish, but ultimately fell short. “I gave 150%,” he shared, visibly emotional.

Rosenqvist, overwhelmed, thanked the fans for their support, reflecting on how meaningful it was to have his wife and newborn daughter witness his momentous win. This victory is particularly significant for Meyer Shank Racing, as it marks their second Indy 500 triumph, the first being Helio Castroneves’ historic fourth win.
