Gotti's ex-assistant reflects on his time with the 'Teflon Don' leader

John Gotti’s Life: A Look Inside the Rise and Fall of the Teflon Don

For years, John Gotti seemed almost invincible in the mafia world. The head of the Gambino family, he was known for his dapper style and a certain swagger that came with his notorious reputation. Authorities were in a constant battle, trying to find a way to bring him down as he repeatedly managed to evade conviction, earning him the nickname “Teflon Don.”

Now, Gotti’s right-hand man is set to take viewers deeper into his story through a new special. “The Gotti one” will explore the violent ascent and eventual downfall of this infamous figure.

“When I was younger, I loved everything about it. I loved the power,” said Luis Kasman, who claims to be Gotti’s “adopted child.” He reflected on his time with Gotti and his access to the mafia boss. Kasman spoke about his experiences in a segment with FOX News senior correspondent Eric Shawn.

In one memorable instance, Kasman recalled a high-profile trial in 1990 where Gotti was acquitted of charges related to an earlier shooting. “I remember it like it was yesterday. That was the beginning of Teflon. It started that day,” he said, emphasizing the impact of that moment.

Gotti had orchestrated the murder of Paul Castellano in 1985 to seize control of the Gambino family. His reign as a mafia don lasted through the late ’80s and into the ’90s. Yet, despite a mounting list of serious charges—including murder and extortion—Gotti continued to remain free until 1992 when his luck finally ran out. With crucial testimonies from former associate Sammy “The Bull” Gravano, federal prosecutors were able to dismantle Gotti’s organization. Gotti was sentenced to life in prison, where he died in 2002.

Interestingly, despite the violence that surrounded Gotti, Kasman expressed that he never grappled with moral dilemmas about their relationship. “Some might call me crazy and say I’m wrong, but I don’t feel that way,” he stated. He acknowledged Gotti’s violent reputation but maintained that he wasn’t afraid of him, emphasizing he was aware of Gotti’s capabilities.

The special, titled “Gotti’s Guy,” is set to premiere on June 2nd on the Fox Nation platform.
