AEW Double or Nothing: MJF Triumphs Over Darby Allin
New York – Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) had quite a bit on his plate heading into the All Elite Wrestling (AEW) main event at Double or Nothing this past Sunday. The stakes were high, as he aimed to clinch his third AEW World Championship, wrestling in front of his hometown crowd against Darby Allin, who had lost the title just over a month ago. To add some pressure, wrestling icon Mick Foley had also spoken out about MJF just before the match.
MJF’s response? A swift kick to the groin, not just aimed at Foley but also at the fans who were hoping to see him lose his hair in the ring.
The weather that Memorial Day weekend felt strange—more akin to the Pacific Northwest than New York. As the crowd erupted with signs urging MJF to end the night bald, he found himself quickly thrust into a heated battle. He dodged Allin’s suicide dive, sending Allin crashing headfirst onto the announcer’s table.
Things escalated when MJF executed a powerbomb on Allin, followed by a devastating package piledriver on the steel steps. The crowd reacted with audible gasps, realizing that both wrestlers were suffering. In a brief moment, as they both hung on a rope, MJF and Allin exchanged glances, a silent acknowledgment of their grueling fight.
But the struggle was far from over.
MJF attempted to drag Allin up the ramp, plotting a way to get his hands on the clippers. However, Allin fought back, pushing MJF into a barber chair and preparing for another assault. He looked up at the scaffolding towering above them, his thoughts clearly on a high-risk maneuver.
In a wild twist, Allin climbed up, eager to deliver a final blow to MJF. He shouted praise for Foley before leaping off the scaffolding, crashing onto MJF and the table below, a spectacle that was undoubtedly one of the night’s highlights.
After this daring move, Allin appeared to be in rough shape. When MJF was finally pulled back into the ring for what many thought would be the end, he revealed a nasty cut on the back of his head. Allin then attempted a Coffin Drop but MJF kicked out at two. Trying his best, Allin looked exhausted when he went for a Scorpion Deathlock.
Once more, MJF blocked Allin’s attempts and executed an Avalanche Tombstone Piledriver, sealing Allin’s fate. In a significant moment, MJF became a three-time AEW World Champion at just 30 years old, having defeated numerous wrestling legends along the way. It’s safe to say he won’t need to worry about getting his head shaved.
Finally, just when it seemed like things were settling down, Kevin Knight made an appearance and turned the tide, hitting Allin with a UFO splash while he was being carried off on a stretcher. This unexpected twist left the audience buzzing and left many wondering what would unfold next on “Dynamite” this Wednesday.
