Okada and Takeshita Face Off in AEW Event
Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita squared off in a much-anticipated rematch, stemming from their previous match during the Continental Classic semi-finals at World’s End last December.
These two members of the Don Callis family have been at odds for quite some time. Finally, on Sunday, they would engage for Okada’s International Championship at All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) Double or Nothing event in New York.
The match certainly met expectations.
The action was intense and fast-paced, making it hard to keep track of everything happening. Fans at Louis Armstrong Stadium chanted, “Fight forever!” while the two wrestlers exchanged powerful strikes.
Okada landed a Tombstone Piledriver and followed it up with his signature Rain Maker move. Yet, against the odds, Takeshita managed to get back on his feet after the referee’s count reached one. He tapped into his determination and delivered his own version of the Rainmaker to Okada.
Takeshita then sealed his victory with the Raging Fire, earning the AEW International Championship for the second time. This victory marks his only singles title within the organization.
However, Takeshita’s celebration was short-lived. Just as it seemed like the Don Callis family might spoil his triumph, Kyle Fletcher’s entrance music blared, igniting excitement among the crowd.
Fletcher approached the ring, and in a surprising gesture, hugged Takeshita and raised his hand in celebration. But the moment of unity was fleeting.
Suddenly, Fletcher clotheslined Takeshita and struck him with the championship belt, joining forces with Rocky Romero and Mark Davis to support Takeshita’s opponents.
It became clear that Fletcher’s loyalty rested with the Don Callis family, setting the stage for more drama ahead.
