Creating the least competitive NFL team for the 2026 season

Hey there, it’s time for a bit of fun. Remember those opinions about the worst free agent trades? Today, I’m putting together a team that quite possibly could go winless in the 2026 season.

Instead of mapping out the whole 53-man roster, I’ll focus on each position group. Let’s identify a unit that might struggle to find success. Don’t worry, I’ll also help you spot a great team in a few days. Enjoy the ride!

Quarterback: Cleveland Browns

The Browns’ quarterback situation is pretty perplexing. One of their players comes from a well-known family, but his persona as head coach has left many fans unimpressed. It’s said he has a strong following, but, really, he’s someone to steer clear of.

Then there’s the other player, who, I hesitate to make light of serious allegations against him, but still didn’t perform well on the field. To compound things, the Browns handed him a historically large contract of $230 million. After the 2022 season, he ranks near the bottom of performance stats. The third option in this lineup isn’t any better, making for a dismal group overall.

Honorable Mention: Arizona Cardinals

Running back: Jacksonville Jaguars

Travis Etienne has left the Jaguars for the Saints, leaving them with Beischl Tuten and Chris Rodriguez as their primary backs. Tuten has potential, but managed under 100 rushing yards last season, while the duo only totaled 807 yards combined — not exactly impressive.

Special Award: Denver Broncos

Wide receiver: Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins’ leading receiver is Malik Washington, who stands at an unimposing 5-foot-8. He caught 46 passes last year. Then, there’s Tutu Atwell, also on the shorter side at 5-foot-9 with a mere six catches. Jalen Tolbert, at 6-foot-1, had 18 catches for the Cowboys, which still feels underwhelming. This group might just be one of the weakest receiving lines ever.

Special Award: Carolina Panthers

Tight end: Miami Dolphins

Honestly, watching this unit may be a bizarre form of entertainment. Greg Dulcich might be the best option, perhaps even a backup on a competitive roster. They also drafted two tight ends, with one primarily focused on blocking, which won’t help much in the passing game. Unless you enjoy chaotic scenarios, there’s not much to look forward to here.

Special Award: Tennessee Titans

Offensive line: Tennessee Titans

Cam Ward faced a staggering 55 sacks last season, which tied for the highest in the league. Tennessee didn’t really address their issues, bringing in a backup center and a fifth-round draft pick, which won’t significantly change their fortunes.

Special Award: Miami Dolphins

Defensive line: Atlanta Falcons

The Falcons struggled defensively, ranking poorly in several metrics. They likely wouldn’t have done any better without playing several games against weak divisional rivals. Their projected starters aren’t much better either, as they rank low among defensive linemen.

Special Award: Commander Washington

Edge Rushers: Carolina Panthers

Jaelan Phillips received a massive contract, quite extraordinary for someone who hasn’t excelled at getting sacks. The Panthers’ other edge rusher had a modest performance last season. While sacks aren’t everything, you’d think they should step it up, given the financial commitment made.

Special Award: Tennessee Titans

Linebacker: Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals leaned on rookies last year, and they didn’t impress. One player was near the bottom in performance grades with numerous missed tackles. They’re young, sure, and some improvement is expected, but it was a tough year.

Honorable Mention: Indianapolis Colts

Runner-up: Miami Dolphins

This isn’t just nitpicking; the Dolphins truly are that bad. Sure, the Cardinals weren’t far behind in defensive metrics, but they have some potential in their roster. Meanwhile, Miami’s secondary feels almost entirely like non-starters.

Special Award: Arizona Cardinals
