Laura Rutledge announces major ESPN transition as she departs from ‘SEC Nation’

Laura Rutledge Leaving SEC Nation After Over a Decade

Laura Rutledge has announced that she is stepping away from SEC Network’s “SEC Nation” after more than ten years with the program.

In a touching farewell, she expressed her gratitude for the show, describing it as “one of the most meaningful chapters of my life,” according to an ESPN release.

Burke Magnus, ESPN’s President of Content, mentioned that Rutledge will broaden her responsibilities in the NFL realm with the network, especially with the 2027 Super Bowl coming up.

“Ten years ago, I walked onto this set without knowing what to expect,” Rutledge reflected. “Today, I leave knowing this has truly been one of the most significant parts of my life.”

For Rutledge, “SEC Nation” has always been more than just a show. “It’s been like family—a front-row seat to the excitement of college football, and a reminder of how special the SEC really is. From the energy of a full stadium on a chilly fall morning to those quiet moments behind the scenes that fans never see, I’ll always cherish those Saturdays when everyone came out to support us and share in the experience.”

She also took a moment to thank ESPN and SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, stating, “I plan to remain engaged with college football and the SEC and am eager about what’s next.”

Rutledge joined ESPN in 2014, primarily serving as a reporter for both the SEC Network and ESPN. Throughout her time there, she has also been a full-time sideline reporter for “Monday Night Football” and hosted “NFL Live,” ESPN’s ongoing NFL news show.

While ESPN hasn’t disclosed specifics about her upcoming NFL assignments, Sankey praised Rutledge for being a vital part of the SEC Network since its launch. “She has played an essential role in making SEC Nation a top pregame show in college football,” he noted, highlighting her work ethic and connection with fans. “We are grateful for her contributions and wish her the best in the next chapter of her broadcasting career. We can’t wait to see her at SEC football games this fall!”
