Kiké Hernandez and Shohei Ohtani exit Dodgers game prematurely

Dodgers Face Tough Night Against Rockies

Tuesday was a challenging evening for the Dodgers.

In addition to suffering a significant defeat against the Colorado Rockies, the team also lost Quique Hernandez due to a left oblique muscle contusion. Furthermore, Shohei Ohtani had to leave the game early after being hit by a pitch on his throwing hand.

Hernandez’s injury was noticeably serious—at least at first glance.

Returning to the field just on Monday after being sidelined for two months due to offseason elbow surgery, Hernandez hit his first home run of the season in the third inning. But during a double into deep center field in the fourth, he seemed to injure himself.

The veteran utility player looked visibly uncomfortable as he made his way to second base. He was taken out of the game shortly after, and viewers saw him having an emotional chat with manager Dave Roberts in the dugout.

While the exact severity of his injury remains unclear, oblique contusions typically lead to time on the injured reserve list.

Meanwhile, Ohtani got hit by an 85.2 mph changeup during the fourth inning, right after Hernandez’s incident.

Despite showing signs of discomfort initially, Ohtani persisted before being pinch-hit by Dalton Rushing as a designated hitter. There’s a silver lining, as it seems he might have merely hit the padded guard rather than his actual hand.

Ohtani is set to make his next appearance during Wednesday’s series finale, making his early exit appear to be more of a precautionary move. Still, the Dodgers have yet to give an update on his condition.
