Indie wrestler shares how social media helps in gaining online attention

Wrestler Dono Hefner Embraces Social Media to Build His Brand

Competing in the social media arena can be quite challenging. It’s not just about flashy posts; creating an impactful brand is tough for many. Yet, some professional wrestlers, like Richard Holliday and Ben Bishop, have figured out effective marketing strategies, making them standout figures on the indie wrestling scene. They’ve garnered thousands of followers across various social media platforms, which is no small feat.

Dono Hefner, a pro wrestler looking to make his mark, seems to be taking notes from their playbooks. Though he’s not yet a household name, he’s actively using social media to his advantage. Hefner finds inspiration from fellow wrestlers like Holliday, Bishop, and Tommy Invincible. He shared with Fox News Digital that for anyone trying to break into the indie wrestling world, social media is essential.

“Richard Holliday is definitely one of my role models in the indie scene. He’s savvy about promoting himself and his brand,” Hefner noted in a recent interview. “A lot of folks out there aren’t leveraging social media effectively. It’s such a vital tool in our industry.”

Hefner believes there aren’t many like Holliday, Bishop, and Invincible who fully utilize social media. “They’re all quite intelligent about this stuff. That’s the approach I’m taking now—posting regularly,” he said.

One key takeaway for Hefner is the idea that you never know who might be watching your content. “I’m constantly brainstorming fresh ideas and ways to promote myself, as you just can’t tell who’s on the other side of the screen,” he explained. “Whether you get 100 views or 1,000, someone might be taking note. A scout from WWE could be watching without you having any idea.”

Hefner fell in love with wrestling at a young age. As a kid, he was captivated by the sport, and as high school approached, he started contemplating his future. “I loved wrestling since I was 5 or 6, but I began thinking, ‘What do I want to do with my life beyond that?’” he reflected. “The thought of pursuing something conventional just didn’t sit right with me. So, I decided to follow my passion.”

While he aims to secure as many match bookings as possible, Hefner hopes to embrace the journey of pro wrestling for as long as he can. “Having an end goal is good, sure, but also, where I’m headed is what counts,” he said. “Life is about the journey. Whether I’m in this for 10, 15, or even 20 years, every wrestler has their own unique story. I focus on my path and don’t set rigid goals for myself.”

As for what’s next in his wrestling career? It’s a bit up in the air. Hefner mentioned he has plans to head to Puerto Rico on June 13th, but it sounds like everything’s still in flux.
