Puerto Vallarta: Serial killer thought to be behind deaths of 3 women in 11 days

Concerns Rise Over Murders of Women in Puerto Vallarta

In Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the grim discovery of three murdered women has raised alarms about a potential serial killer operating within this popular tourist hub. The victims, seemingly between the ages of 30 and 35, were found partially undressed in different locations over a span of just 11 days.

“All lines of investigation are being exhausted to find the persons or persons responsible,” Mexican officials stated, though they have been tight-lipped about the ongoing investigations.

The first victim was located on May 10th near Rancho El Piruli, a well-known observation point. Just five days later, another body was discovered along the highway leading to Mismaloya, situated south of the city. The third body was found on May 21st in the Parque Las Palmas neighborhood.

While the identities of the three women remain unconfirmed and no definitive link has been established between the cases, the isolated and less-trafficked sites of their discoveries have sparked public concern regarding a possible serial killer. However, local authorities are downplaying this notion. As reported by Reporte Diario, preliminary information indicates that the cases might not be interconnected, even as clear signs of foul play are evident. For example, the third woman’s body showed signs of violence, including a bruise on her left brow.

Investigators believe the third victim might be 22-year-old Elizabeth Martinez, a resident of the State of Mexico who was reported missing in late April, although official identification is still pending.

This heartbreaking situation reflects a much broader issue within the country. According to the Human Rights Research Center, an average of ten women and girls are killed in Mexico daily, underscoring the persistent problem of femicide.

The recent uptick in violence also follows several months of unrest in Puerto Vallarta associated with the powerful Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), though it remains unclear whether these specific murders are linked to the cartel’s activities.

In light of the current violence, the U.S. State Department has maintained a Level 3 Travel Advisory for the State of Jalisco, advising American citizens to “Reconsider Travel” due to substantial risks of violent crime and kidnapping.

Paul Tumpowsky, Chief Revenue Officer for Fora Travel, cautioned travelers to maintain a “heightened sense of awareness,” suggesting it’s wise to consider the amount of risk they’re willing to take while still enjoying their vacation.
