Mullin: Unauthorized Immigrants Asking for Ethnic Food, But 'This Isn't a Hotel'

DHS Secretary Addresses Detainee Demands at Delaney Hall

Markwayne Mullin, the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, has stated that detainees at the Delaney Hall immigration detention center are requesting ethnic food from their home countries. He remarked, “This is not a Holiday Inn.”

As reported, several Democrats from New Jersey, including Governor Mikie Sherrill and Senators Cory Booker and Andy Kim, participated in a protest on Memorial Day outside Delaney Hall. They were advocating for the facility’s closure amidst claims of hunger strikes by the detainees.

Booker highlighted the situation, saying, “Immigrants at Delaney Hall are on hunger strike because they are fighting for human rights.” In a past message, he expressed, “Enough is enough. Not in New Jersey or anywhere.”

During a press conference with President Donald Trump, Mullin clarified that the alleged hunger strike was mainly a small number of detainees seeking specific ethnic meals.

“This illustrates how the radical left prioritizes party politics over public safety,” Mullin remarked, noting the timing of the protests. He expressed frustration at the focus on detainee demands, emphasizing the serious nature of the crimes associated with some of the individuals detained.

He added, “Only a few are refusing food because they want it to be ethnically appropriate. Well, they can return to their home countries for that. We provide sufficient nutrition here. This isn’t a Holiday Inn.”

While protests occurred over the long weekend, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents carried out arrests of convicted criminals, including murderers and sex offenders.

Among those arrested were Mosiah Wright from Jamaica, linked to a murder in a drug trafficking case in Minnesota, and Joaquín Perez Barajas from Mexico, convicted of attempted capital murder in Texas. Additional arrests included Candido Arroyo Bautista, also from Mexico, and Vidal Jorge Jimenz from Honduras, both with serious offenses involving minors.
