Can 'Wheel of Fortune' reveal the key to a lasting marriage?

An informal analysis suggests that husbands might hint at the longevity of their marriages, and this observation comes from a well-known TV show.

Longtime fans of “Wheel of Fortune” have reportedly tuned into nearly 2,000 episodes, where they’ve noticed a recurring theme among male contestants and their references to their wives.

“Can you picture your husband going on TV and just calling you his wife?”

divided perspectives

Between 2010 and 2019, across 1,950 episodes, a content creator named Joey Tox grouped male contestants in two ways. He tracked 2,855 male contestants, noting that 2,016 of them brought up their wives while speaking to the former host Pat Sajak and his co-host Vanna White.

The participants were split into those who complimented their wives and those who didn’t. Of the 1,660 men who expressed appreciation for their wives, just 91 (5.48%) ended up divorced within five years of their episode airing.

In contrast, from the 356 men who didn’t offer compliments, 55 faced divorce within the same timeframe, which is a striking 15.45%.

financial factors

The researcher noted that these figures represented complete divorces, though he acknowledged the data isn’t flawless. Still, it indicates that failing to praise one’s wife might make a divorce three times more likely compared to those who do.

Additionally, many of these men earned over $40,000, which TV analysts pointed out as a noteworthy detail.

From 185 husbands who won significant amounts of money, only 7% sought divorce within five years post-victory.

marital reflections

Simultaneously, 17% of men who refrained from complimenting their partners ended their marriages within five years.

Furthermore, men who won large prizes seemed to divorce at a rate that was three points higher than others (11.14% compared to 8.14%).

“Can you believe your husband going on national television and just referring to you as his wife instead of ‘beautiful wife’ or ‘amazing wife’?” one TikTok user remarked.

The official “Wheel of Fortune” TikTok account responded to this video with a simple, “Brrr.”
