Another Democrat-Driven Glock Ban Faces Legal Challenges

NSSF to Challenge Connecticut’s Glock Ban

The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) declared on Thursday its intention to contest Connecticut’s recent prohibition on Glock pistols in court.

This announcement follows Democratic Governor Ned Lamont signing HB5043, aimed at measures against what is called “machine gun convertible pistol” legislation. NSSF’s Executive Vice President and General Counsel, Lawrence Keene, criticized the governor for not addressing the real issue of criminal misuse of “Glock switches,” which are illegal. Keene argued that these new laws unjustly punish responsible gun owners, infringing upon their Second Amendment rights.

“Instead of focusing on enforcing existing laws and holding offenders accountable, Connecticut’s leaders are catering to gun control advocates,” Keene stated. He believes this approach detracts from the fundamental rights afforded to citizens, and he expressed concern that such measures contradict Supreme Court rulings.

In response to the new legislation, an NSSF representative mentioned that they are currently seeking potential plaintiffs to support their lawsuit. This follows quick legal actions by groups like the National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment Foundation against similar bans enacted in Maryland and California.

Advocates for the bill contend that devices like “Glock switches” facilitate the illegal transformation of Glock pistols into machine guns. Under current law, possessing such a conversion device can lead to severe penalties, including substantial fines and prison time.

Federal regulations prohibit the ownership or creation of fully automatic firearms unless they are registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), based on laws established in 1934.

Glock pistols have gained significant popularity in the U.S. and often feature prominently in retail rankings for firearms. Reports indicate that the Glock 19X model alone saw over 100,000 units sold shortly after its debut.

As of now, Governor Lamont has not provided comments regarding the NSSF’s announcement.
