Massachusetts Governor Supports Risky Migrants, Ignores Young Americans

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey’s lenient approach towards illegal immigration is reportedly leading to an increase in crime, causing young residents to leave the state, and contributing to budget deficits.

So far, Healey has allocated over $1 billion toward supporting illegal immigrants, while other regions, including some Democratic-leaning states, are starting to reduce their spending in this area.

According to a report, Healey’s shelter program alone cost more than $1 billion in fiscal year 2025, as noted by Fox News.

Initially, this program was designed to assist Massachusetts families in need of temporary housing. However, it seems to be directing substantial funds towards providing free accommodations for illegal immigrants instead of helping residents.

Moreover, Healey is criticized for her policies that may endanger public safety, as she has refused to cooperate with ICE in the deportation of illegal immigrants and convicted criminals, allowing many to be released onto the streets daily.

For instance, in one case, a felon in Worcester was arrested for allegedly assaulting someone with a dangerous weapon but was still released without state assistance.

ICE detained Dhaval Amratbhai Patel, an undocumented immigrant from India, after he assaulted a man with a baseball bat during a dispute on May 18.

“This individual believed he could harm others without consequences. After being arrested for serious offenses, he was released back into the community by state officials,” stated Acting Assistant Secretary of State Lauren Biss. “The choice to free criminals instead of working with law enforcement compromises community safety.”

ICE also revealed that all arrests of gang members and violent offenders in states with sanctuary laws occur without local governmental support.

One of the first operations conducted in Massachusetts resulted in ICE apprehending over 1,400 illegal immigrants.

Despite these figures, Healey continues to assert that ICE primarily targets nonviolent individuals in her state.

In the meantime, her administration is facing scrutiny due to a multimillion-dollar fraud investigation that seems to be overlooked.

Last year, major fraud incidents were discovered, leading to $12 million in wasted public funds, alongside $7 million in SNAP fraud and $1 million related to pandemic misuse. The Massachusetts Republican Party pointed out extensive fraud within the state’s transportation department as well.

“Governor Healey’s almost complete indifference to fraud cases exceeding $25 million of taxpayer money is alarming,” noted Amy Carnevale, Chair of the Massachusetts Republican Party, in a press release dated May 26.

Additionally, despite federal findings on Medicaid fraud, Healey described MassHealth’s handling as “strong program integrity,” as per a dismissal reported in March.

Consequently, Massachusetts is gradually evolving into a state where residents prefer to leave rather than relocate to.

Recent statistics indicate that Massachusetts lost a net total of 33,340 residents to other states from July 2024 to July 2025. Alarmingly, many of these are young adults. A survey from CBS in April revealed that over 25% of young adults in the Boston area are contemplating moving soon.

“Massachusetts is increasingly shedding talented young professionals, essential for our innovation economy,” said Amy Carnevale in a press release dated May 27. “Companies are following suit and relocating as well. The Healey administration’s inaction regarding these pressing issues jeopardizes the state’s long-term success.”

Meanwhile, Boston Republican Mike Minogue hosted a press conference to announce that he has gathered enough signatures—16,669—to challenge Healey for the governorship. Minogue claims to have secured more endorsements than any other candidate in the race thus far.

“It’s time for a fresh approach to governance. With over 16,000 signatures, we’re making strides toward our goal,” Minogue stated. “People across Massachusetts are ready for a change. Many residents who have joined our team seek a governor committed to making Massachusetts a thriving place to live and work.”
