Orange County beach filled with dachshunds for ‘SoCal Wienerfest’

Annual Southern California Wienfest Celebrates Dachshunds

This past Saturday, Huntington Beach was transformed into a furry paradise as dachshund enthusiasts from across the nation gathered for the Southern California Wienfest. The event was buzzing with excitement, featuring a range of activities including races, costume contests, and vendor booths dedicated to all things dachshund.

Photos and videos captured the joyous atmosphere, showcasing cute pups dressed up, alongside their owners and fellow dog lovers soaking up the sun.

A particular standout was a wiener dog named “Barbie,” who eagerly awaited her chance to shine in the “Best Beach Outfit” competition. Dressed in a vibrant pink ensemble adorned with beads, her owner shared that this was Barbie’s first event, although she had attended the festival before. Clearly, they weren’t missing this annual highlight.

Participants expressed delight at the gathering, describing it as “a fun time“ and “awesome.“ One highlight was a giant wiener dog, allowing guests to take memorable photos with the oversized pup.

This year marked a special milestone—the 10th anniversary of the huntington beach event celebrating our beloved wiener dogs. While contests and activities drew attention, the Dachshund Derby, where dozens of these little dogs raced to the finish line, was undoubtedly the main attraction.

The festival, humorously dubbed “Southern California’s Largest Sausage Fest,” aimed to bring together dachshund lovers for a day filled with racing and beach fun. Alongside entertainment, the festival sought to promote local puppy rescue initiatives and raise awareness about intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), a condition that can severely impact dachshunds.

Despite the playful nature of the event, there was an important message behind the festivities. Attendees left feeling joyful, and many expressed eagerness for next year’s celebration. If you weren’t able to make it this time, there’s always the next opportunity to join in on the fun.
