Matt Brown from 'Alaskan Bush People' discovered deceased in a river in Washington

Matt Brown, known for his role on the Discovery Channel’s “Alaskan Bush People,” has passed away at the age of 42. His brother Bear Brown shared the sad news on social media, revealing that Matt’s body was recovered from a river in Washington state.

“They found a body in the river several hours ago and positively identified it as Matt,” Bear stated. His brother Noah was the one who confirmed the identification.

Bear expressed disbelief, saying he never expected Matt to harm himself. He noted, “This injury appears to be self-inflicted,” while emphasizing that the coroner would conduct further investigations.

A witness had called 911 after seeing a man in the river, and later reported hearing sounds that led to the discovery of Matt face down in the water, where he was ultimately carried away by the current. Reports indicated a firearm was found near where he was last seen.

In a TikTok video, Bear asked fans for privacy during this difficult time for their family, specifically requesting that people not lash out at their mother, Ami, who cared deeply for Matt.

Matt was part of “Alaskan Bush People” from 2014 until 2019, before stepping back due to struggles with addiction. In a 2016 interview, he candidly discussed his battle with alcohol, expressing concern about the direction his life was heading. “I started off drinking lightly, but then I started drinking more and more,” he recalled, reflecting on how he realized he needed help.

After going through a 35-day treatment program, he felt a renewed perspective on life. He spoke about learning more about himself during that time, turning weaknesses into strengths, and finding his way back. Unfortunately, this tragedy isn’t the first for the Brown family.

In February 2021, the family announced the passing of their patriarch, Billy Brown, who died at 68 following a stroke. The family expressed their grief, remembering him as a loving father and grandfather who lived life on his own terms, off the grid.

In an Instagram post, Bear conveyed their deep sadness and commitment to honoring his legacy while asking for privacy and prayers during their time of mourning.
