Kurt Russell Reflects on Life in Colorado
Kurt Russell, at 75, has found contentment away from the Hollywood hustle, making a home in Colorado’s mountains. He shares that living on a ranch affords him the freedom to simply “do what I want every day.” It seems to encapsulate everything he cherishes about life in Colorado.
“Eventually, I wanted to start living on a ranch,” he recalled. When Russell and Goldie Hawn began their life together, they established a ranch where their family grew up—this was over 40 years ago. He mentioned the decision to leave Hollywood was considered quite unconventional back then.
“I wasn’t running away; I was just living where I lived,” he said, emphasizing the luck he felt that his life didn’t flip upside down due to the decision. At that time, it was rare for anyone in the industry to opt for such a lifestyle, which garnered mixed reactions. Some might’ve thought he was stepping out of the spotlight for good.
He has since witnessed many others opting for a quieter life away from Los Angeles. “I don’t hate LA,” Russell clarified, though he readily acknowledged that it’s not his preferred way of living.
He reflected on the unique community of the Old Snowmass area, remarking, “Everyone who lives there does so because they want to be there.” In his view, it’s a contrast to the somewhat transient nature of LA.
For his children, life in Colorado offers a blend of challenges and rewards, steeped in nature’s beauty. “They grew up with plenty of what nature has to offer,” he noted, adding that the rural lifestyle feels more comfortable and reminiscent of his own upbringing in Maine.
Russell stated, “Once you’re exposed to something like that, it always feels like home.” He expressed deep satisfaction with the life they’ve built and what it provides for their kids.
Recently, Goldie Hawn discussed their choice of the mountains over city life, revealing they faced safety concerns while living in Los Angeles. They had endured burglaries, which made the peaceful Colorado life even more appealing.
Hawn shared her feelings after a break-in, recalling how unsettling it was, especially when she realized it happened while she was home. That experience played a big part in their decision to settle in a more secure and serene environment.
In sum, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn continue to embrace life in Colorado, focusing on family, nature, and the simple joys that come with it.
