NFL Trade Activity Heats Up with June 1st
With June 1st upon us, an anticipated trade in the NFL might finally happen.
Talks about a trade involving Brown and the New England Patriots are gaining traction for the Philadelphia Eagles now that it’s June. Additionally, another major NFL player could be on the move. Myles Garrett, who skipped OTAs with the Cleveland Browns, has been suggested as a candidate for a trade to the Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, or Dallas Cowboys.
As mentioned earlier, there were rumors in March that Cleveland might tweak Garrett’s contract to improve salary cap flexibility. Yet, at that time, these changes were also noted to potentially make a trade easier, at least in theory.
After June 1, if the Browns decide to trade Garrett, they could split the nearly $41 million in dead money over two seasons. Should a trade occur post-Monday, they would have $15.53 million in dead money against the cap in 2026, with the remaining $25.56 million impacting 2027.
Browns GM Andrew Berry has been vocal about wanting to retain Garrett. Speaking during the league’s annual meeting in March, around the same time Cleveland adjusted Garrett’s contract, he denied any link between the changes and a potential trade. Berry stated, “If we wanted to trade Miles, we wouldn’t have had to make a contract adjustment. It has nothing to do with that.”
Berry reiterated that Garrett is a “career Brown,” emphasizing, “Miles is Brown’s career. He’s one of the faces of our organization. We’ve communicated our feelings clearly in the past and present, and, honestly, we don’t want to keep discussing this.”
Even so, speculation continues. Social media buzzed on Sunday evening with discussions about possible trades. Veteran Cleveland writer Mary Kay Cabot suggested that the Rams, Eagles, and Cowboys might be options. She posed the question of whether the Browns would “seize the opportunity” for a surprising trade.
Eagles reporter Elliott Shore Parks provided insights regarding the situation of both Brown and Garrett.
So, will we actually see a trade involving Garrett? Or is this just chatter until the season kicks off? I suppose we’ll know soon enough.
